National Library opens Spanish room
The National Library of Viet
Nam in Ha Noi inaugurated yesterday, July 9, a 20-seat reading room for any
members of the public, who wish to read books in Spanish.
The library has collected nearly 3,000 documents in Spanish thus far with the
help of the embassies of Spain, Venezuela and other South American countries. Of
the documents, there are 957 books and 1,800 electronic books that present
people and the culture of Spanish-speaking countries.
"I hope the air-conditioned room which is connected to internet can attract a
number of readers," said Dang Van Uc, the library’s vice director.
During the inauguration ceremony, Spanish Ambassador to Viet Nam Soledad Fuentes
was bestowed with a medal from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
She was honoured for her important contribution to the promotion of cultural
co-operation between Viet Nam and Spain over the last three years. At this
occasion, she offered one of her paintings to the library, which will decorate
the new reading room.
