Malaysia drums up tourism in Vietnam
Tourism Malaysia Promotion
Board is working with airlines and travel companies of Malaysia and Vietnam to
promote products and tours in order to lure more Vietnamese tourists to Malaysia
this year.
Mohd Akbal Setia, new director of the board in Vietnam, told reporters in HCMC
last week that Tourism Malaysia would exert its resources and collaborate with
partners to promote events, including the Malaysia Mega Sale Carnival in that
country, for Vietnamese travelers.
Setia said during the country’s biggest shopping event that lasts until August
31, shoppers could enjoy discounts up to 80% for a variety of products ranging
from fashion accessories, jewelry and cosmetics to the latest gadgets and
handicrafts.
Visitors can watch colorful performances and acts by street buskers and
percussion bands during the carnival. Other music shows and promotions also add
color and thrill to this event.
To help attract more Vietnamese to Malaysia, Malaysia Airlines is offering
promotional return fares from US$172 for passengers departing from HCMC and
US$237 from Hanoi.
The fares are outlined in a twin-sharing package of ground arrangements in Kuala
Lumpur and valid for booking until August 31 and for travel until September 15.
Meanwhile, Genting Group collaborates with One Travel International and Asian
Travel to promote individual packages of three days to Genting for US$99 and
four days to Genting and Kuala Lumpur for US$125. These packages for a minimum
of two customers include tickets to recreational parks but are exclusive of air
tickets.
Setia said all that Tourism Malaysia was doing was to encourage more Vietnamese
people to visit Malaysia to shop and participate in festivals and fun activities
across the country.
Setia disclosed Tourism Malaysia’s target of attracting 150,000 Vietnamese
travelers this year. “The 150,000 are good enough for us,” Setia told the Daily.
Around 72,000 Vietnamese visited Malaysia in the first half of this year.
