Plan for 1000th great anniversary of Hanoi approved
Hanoi authorities have
approved the plan for the 1000th anniversary of Thang Long – Hanoi capital,
drawn up by writer Nguyen Khac Phuc, after three months of consideration.
According to the plan, the 1000th anniversary of Thang Long – Hanoi will take
place over ten days, from October 1-10, 2010, with 30 major events. The biggest
events will be the opening and closing ceremonies.
On the first day, October 1, 2010, the opening show entitled “Thang Long – Hanoi
– Ho Chi Minh Age” will recall the most important landmarks in the history of
Hanoi since the early 20th century, especially the August Revolution 1945 and
the Declaration of Independence ceremony at Ba Dinh Square.
On October 10, the final show will tell the story about King Ly Thai To’s
transferring of Dai Co Viet’s capital from Hoa Lu (currently northern province
of Ninh Binh) to Dai La (Hanoi today) in 1010.
In the intervening eight days, Hanoi’s cultural quintessence will be introduced
through photo and painting exhibitions, international seminars, a film festival
and others. Large-scale shows will be held in the evenings, namely: Thang Long’s
strong impetus – The country’s song; Co Loa – legends and history; Thang Long –
a thousand years of love.
Other special activities to celebrate this great event will be concerts by
international and national symphony orchestras, performances of newly-written
songs about Thang Long – Hanoi, a street carnival and many music and art shows.
As part of the plan for 1000th Thang Long – Hanoi anniversary, approved by the
government in late 2008, the restoration of Voi Phuc and Bach Ma temples (two of
the four holy temples defending Hanoi in the four directions – Voi Phuc, Bach
Ma, Kim Lien and Quan Thanh) started in early July.
On July 13, Prime Minister appointed the chief editor of the government’s
website a member of the propaganda, education and advertising sub-committee for
the 1000th Thang Long – Hanoi anniversary.
This sub-committee is responsible for building a plan to spread information
about the great anniversary in Vietnam and instruct local agencies to implement
the approved anniversary scheme.
