Local aviation market grew by 15 percent
This figure was released by
the national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines on July 14th. In particular, in the
first six months of 2009, the local aviation market increased by 15 percent
compared to the same period last year.
Over the past six months, Vietnam Airlines operated nearly 32,320 safe flights
and carried nearly 4.5 million tourist arrivals (2.9 million local tourists and
1.6 million foreign tourists), an increase of 0.6 percent compared to the same
period last year.
Vietnam Airlines’ total turnover in the first six months of 2009 reached an
estimated VND 11,372 billion, 48.09 percent of the yearly target, with a pre-tax
profit of VND 28 billion and VND 124.2 billion paid to the State budget.
While many foreign airlines must narrow their operation scale and reduce the
income of staff, Vietnam Airlines not only continues to operate its local and
foreign flight network but maintains its operation scale and has opened 3 more
local flights without cutting staff.
Vietnam Airlines also focuses on improving competitive capability and
maintaining its market share, striving to carry nearly 9.4 million passengers
and 119 tonnes goods, with a total turnover of about VND 24 trillion this year.
At present, Vietnam Airlines is operating a fleet of 52 modern aircrafts flying
to 19 local destinations and 23 international destinations.
