Da Nang’s beaches swimming with fun
With plentiful accommodation
and good resaurants nearby, visitors from throughout the world are flocking to
Da Nang’s many sandy beaches for fun and relaxation. Thu Giang reports.
The coastline along Da Nang city is nearly 40km and stretches from Hai Van Pass
to Quang Nam Province. There are many famous stop off points for tourists,
including Nam O, Thanh Binh, Tien Sa and Son Tra beaches. The soft sands and
turquoise blue waters lure tourists from far and wide for convalescence and
relaxation.
They have also been listed in the six most luxurious beaches in the world by
US-based Forbes Magazine because they satisfied its criteria of free admission,
yellow sand, good sunlight and decent waves for sea sports. They are also free
from natural disasters, have good food at affordable prices, a relaxing
atmosphere and an international class golf course and yachts.
The deputy director of Da Nang’s Department of Culture, Tourism and Sports,
Nguyen Phuc Linh, says most beaches are next to the city centre, and are
accessible to most forms of transport.
Visitors can fish, water-ski, dive and sail race boats.
"Pham Van Dong beach is 900m long, and is the most crowded of the city’s beaches
because it has wh-ite sand that slopes gently into the sea," Linh says.
Before 1975, part of the beach was reserved for rest and relaxation venues to
serve American soldiers. Now, because of its prime location, it is packed with
top quality hotels and restaurants.
Xuan Thieu beach holds a very important place in history.
On March 1965 brigade No 9 of the US marine forces entered the city, marking the
beginning of Viet Nam’s American War.
The beach became part of the US military zone and was used only by US soldiers,
with an airport for field combat and storage for military supplies.
The US troops called Xuan Thieu Red Beach.
This may have been because of the impressive scenery they saw at dawn and sunset
when the red was reflected from the sea.
