Vietnam Summer Camp 2009 opens
More than 100 overseas
Vietnamese youth from a number of countries in the world attended the Vietnam
Summer Camp 2009, which opened at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum in Hanoi on July 19.
The camp was jointly organised by the Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs,
the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ho Chi Minh Youth Union. It aims to
acquaint overseas Vietnamese youth with the unique culture of their homeland and
instill them with a sense of patriotism.
The camp will take place from July 19 to August 5 in three regions of the
country: north, central and south.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Thanh Son says that the camp aims to
help overseas Vietnamese youth practise Vietnamese, learn about the culture,
traditions and history of their homeland and meet with their friends at home.
Through camp activities, they will have a chance to visit historic relics and
national heritage sites to gain a better understanding of their homeland as well
as Party and State’s policies and guidelines.
After the opening ceremony, they visited President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and
attended a seminar on President Ho Chi Minh with Vietnamese youth abroad.
The first camp was held in 2004.
