Investing US$3.1 million in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park
The central province of Quang
Binh will invest US$3.1 million in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park to develop
sustainable tourism.
Nguyen Van Ky, deputy director of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports
and Tourism, says the capital will be sourced from the Mekong Sub-region
Sustainable Tourism Development Project and disbursed in four years (2009-2013).
The funds will be used to build rest houses along the HCM Highway and wharves on
the Son River in Son Trach Commune, Bo Trach District, to serve visitors to the
park. It will also be used to train tourism workers in foreign languages and in
an effluent and garbage treatment system.
The Mekong Sub-region Sustainable Tourism Development Project aims to reduce
poverty in the provinces of Quang Binh, Thua Thien-Hue, Quang Tri, Bac Kan and
Cao Bang in Vietnam and nine provinces in Laos where tourism potential is high.
