Thai House Speaker votes for Ha Long as world natural wonder
Thai Parliament President and
Speaker of the House of Representatives Chai Chidchob and his entourage on July
22 visited Ha Long Bay, a place he said should be listed as one of the world’s
new seven natural wonders.
At the reception for the Thai Parliamentary delegation, Le Thi Bich Huong, Vice
Chair of the Quang Ninh province People’s Committee, briefed attendees on local
socio-economic development, particularly the potential for ship building and
mineral exploitation.
The tour of Ha Long Bay followed Chidchob’s meeting with Vietnam National
Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong on July 21 upon his arrival in Hanoi to
discuss measures to boost bilateral ties to contribute to ASEAN unity.
Vietnam’s Ha Long Bay is currently one of the top 28 nominees to advance to the
final stage of a voting campaign for the world’s seven modern natural wonders.
On July 21, the NewOpenWorld website posted that the bay, which was twice
recognised by UNESCO for its beautiful landscapes and geological uniqueness,
ranks 12th among the 28 candidates in terms of votes.
