Strengthening the partnership between the State and businesses in tourism promotion
A seminar on strengthening the
partnership between the State and businesses in tourism promotion was held on
July 24 in Hanoi by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, in the
framework of Greater Mekong Sub-region Tourism Co-operation Programme.
The seminar drew the attendance of over 100 delegates from central and local
tourism authorities, the Vietnam Tourism Association, travel firms, hotels,
tourism training institutes…
This was a forum for tourism professionals in Vietnam, reputable international
speakers from world-leading tourism organisations including the World Tourism
Organisation (UNWTO), the Netherlands Development Organisation (SNV), the Mekong
Tourism Co-ordinating Office (MTCO), the International Finance Corporation (IFC)…
and representatives of tourism enterprises to exchange and share their
experience in tourism promotion.
The seminar focused on the following issues: Benefits of co-operation in
destination promotion; Benefit and Cost-sharing mechanisms between the State and
enterprises in destination promotion; Some successful models in tourism
promotional co-operation; Experience in tourism promotional co-operation of
Greater Mekong Sub-region countries; Prospects of co-operation between the MTCO
and GMS countries in promoting GMS into a single destination; the involvement of
tourism enterprises and the national-flag carrier Vietnam Airlines in tourism
promotional campaign in near future.
The delegates also proposed forms of co-operation, appropriate mechanisms,
policies and organising models aiming at fostering the partnership between the
State and businesses in tourism promotion; heightening the effectiveness of
tourism promotion; promoting Vietnam’s image in the region and the world,
specially in the circumstance that international arrivals to Vietnam is
decreasing due to global economic downturn and A/H1N1 influenza spread over the
world.
