Lao Cai attracts investment through tourism promotion

Lao Cai tourism promotion has been strengthened in recent years, considerably contributing to attracting tourists and investment projects. One of the indispensable requirements in tourism promotion is sufficient, accurate and timely information about local potentials, advantages and tourist products.
Thanks to promotional activities as releasing tourist publications to popularise tourist potential of the province, Lao Cai has gained encouraging achievements in drawing tourists and investment projects. From 2006 to 2009, the mountainous province has attracted seven FDI projects in tourism sector with the total capital of over US$ 28 million and one 1.8 million-euro ecotourism project funded by the Agence Française de Développement (AFD). Eleven domestic investment projects in tourism sector totalling US$ 17 million has also been approved.
Being endowed with special landscape and climate, Lao Cai has successfully organised tourist events in the area, among which Fanxipan climbing competion receives considerable attention of tourists and sponsors. The national-flag carrier Vietnam Airlines was named the biggest sponsor with some VND 3.3 billion funded for the “Back to Origin” Programme.
