US$4 billion railway to be built in south
The Vietnam Railway Department
has received approval from the Ministry of Transport to build a railway from Ho
Chi Minh City to Can Tho, at the cost of US$ 4 billion.
Consultants for the project are the Southern Transport Design Consulting JSC
from Vietnam and Chungsuk Company from The Republic of Korea.
At present, companies are doing survey for the forming of the route which will
start from Thu Thiem or Hoa Hung railway stations in Ho Chi Minh City and might
end up at one of the three destinations in Can Tho.
If the final destination ends at Cai Rang district, the railway will be 157km.
At Binh Thuy or O Mon districts, it is 147km or 149km long, respectively.
