A merchant ship museum to be constructed
The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of
Quang Nam province in association with the People’s Committee of Hoi An city
have decided to build a museum showcasing merchant ships from the 17th and 18th
centuries in Hoi An city, the first of its kind in Vietnam.
Accordingly, the museum will cover around 24,400 square meters of Thanh Ha and
Cam Pho districts.
The Paris Museum of Merchant Ships, in France, and other museums in Spain,
Poland and Japan have pledged technical assistance to the new museum in Hoi An
City.
The collection of documents and other related exhibits is expected to cost
around VND 300 million.
The construction of this museum is to start in 2010.
