Vietnam Airlines steward detained in Australia
Vietnam Airlines on August 19 reported that one of
its flight attendants was detained by Australian police on Aug. 15 after they
found in his belongings three bottles of spirits suspected to contain addictive
substances.
The detained person was Phan Thanh Tung No. 12, who served on flight VN 783 from
Ho Chi Minh City to Sydney on August 15.
Tung No. 12, who joined Vietnam Airlines on April 1, 2008, was subsequently
suspended from flying for violating the airline regulations and rules as well as
his commitments to the carrier, Vietnam Airlines said.
The airline has asked its Australian office to cooperate closely with local
authorities in their investigations as well as with the Vietnam Embassy and
General Consulate in protecting the legitimate rights and interests of its
employee.
