Vietnamese honored at int’l photo contest
The talent of Vietnamese photographers has gained
world recognition again after the success of Ngo Viet Ngoc at the fifth
international photo contest, which was held in Vietnam, it was announced by the
Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism August 22.
Ngoc won the gold medal for the photo, “Mua lu” (Flooding season), a picture
featuring the harsh and difficult farming life when floods arrive.
The first position was also shared with a British artist, Jan Cawley, with his
photo “Winter forest.”
Along with the success of Ngoc, other Vietnamese photographers won one silver,
five bronzes and six certificates of merit at the contest.
The organizing committee has chosen 342 works by 227 photographers from 27
countries and territories to exhibit at the Vietnam Art and Culture Center,
Hanoi, from November 27 to December 5.
The International Photo Contest 2009 attracted 8,545 photos by 1,275
photographers from 44 countries and territories. Vietnam sent 6,403 photos by
983 photographers.
The contest, sponsored by the International Federation of Photographic Art, is
held to provide a chance for Vietnamese and foreign photographers to not only
compete but also exchange experiences.
