Remains of a Duke dating 200 years found undamaged
A 200 year-old coffin with an almost undamaged
remains inside was sent to Tinh Giac pagoda on August 26th, according to
Superior Monk Thich Thanh Toan, head of the pagoda.
The aloe wood coffin was found when local people and monks were gathering
scattered tombs in Khanh Du village, Huong Thuy, Thua Thien – Hue, in Hue’s
cemetery near the Ngu Phong mount.
The remains were then believed to be Duke Ton That Hoi (1757-1798), who held
important positions under the then Court, according to historical accounts.
He was also defined as a son of Prince Ton That Tu and grandchild of Lord Nguyen
Phuc An.
After finding the coffin, local people and monks carried it to the pagoda to
hold a religious ceremony and then reburied it at the city’s cemetery.
