Art exhibition celebrates National Day
Some well-known artists are display their latest
paintings and sculptures to mark the August Revolution and Nation Day, to be
celebrated early next month at an annual exhibition that opened in HCM City on
Aug.27.
The event features 190 works by 146 artists, all members of the Vietnam Fine
Arts Association and Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Association, including renowned
names like Bui Quang Anh, Truong Han Minh, Huynh Phuong Dong, Uyen Huy and
Nguyen Than.
The paintings are made from a range of materials like water colour, oils colour,
and lacquer, while the sculptures have been made from stone, wood and other
materials.
Nguyen Bang Lam, deputy head of the Vietnam Fine Arts Association, said there
was no regvivements for the artists about topics or materials to use.
“We respect all trends and schools of art.”
In the week preceding the opening, the works were judged by a paned of experts
and 12 were awarded certificates with the top prize going to Luong Quoc Thang
for his painting Tinh Nguon (the Source of Feeling).
Sixty-seven painters were also given medals for their contribution to the
country’s art scene.
The exhibition, at the Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Museum, district 1 will go on
until September 8. Earlier, seven similar events were organised in other parts
of the country.
The August Revolution is market on August 19 and the National Day is celebrated
on September 2.
