Photo collection explores Vietnam
The cream of a photo contest
run by the Tourism Newspaper has just been published in a new collection titled
Vietnam-Mua Thu Nam (Vietnam-Fifth Season).
The 140 page, 25cm by 35cm album showcases 80 of the most outstanding entrees in
the contest, run under the guidance of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and
Tourism as part of activities to cheer the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) 2009 which
was held in Vietnam from January 5-12.
According to Tran Chien Thang, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism,
the aim of the contest was to collect the most contemporary photos of Vietnam
that could be used to promote the country as a top tourist destination.
First prize in the collection category went to Vu Duc Huy for his photo Le Hoi
Cau Dinh (Temple Festival). Second prize was clinched by Pham Dinh for the photo
Cho Phien Dong Van (Dong Van Market Day). Do Cao Dung won third prize for the
photo My Son – Destination.
The top award in the single image category was presented to Van Phuc for the
photo Luu Luyen (Affection). Lai Dien Dam got second prize for Mui Thom Quyen Ru
(Seductive Scent) and the third prize went to Thai Tuan Kiet for Chung Toi La
Nguoi Viet (We All Are Vietnamese).
The title Vietnam – Fifth Season refers to the traditional belief in Vietnam
that there are five elements – metal, wood, water, fire and earth. The book is
also divided into five parts: daily life, spiritual life, exploring heritage,
the sea and the paddy field and identity.
The book is written in both English and Vietnamese, and includes a free CD ROM.
The book costs 250,000 VND and is available at the Tourism Newspaper at No 25,
Lane 12, Dao Tan Street, Hanoi.
