International tourists up in August

The number of international tourists in August was recorded to be up by 16% compared to that in July, according to statistics of the Vietnam Tourism General Department.
As reported, nearly 315,000 foreign tourists visited Vietnam in August, bringing up the total number of foreign visitors for eight months to 2.4 million. The figure, however, is said to drop by 17.7%, compared to that of the same period last year.
Tourists from China, the US, Korea and Japan remain the most numerous. About 300,000 Chinese, over 293,000 Americans, and nearly 257,000 Koreans have visited Vietnam.
A representative of the VTGD said that tourism promotion programmes had proved initially effective.
