Vietnam Airlines freezes domestic air fares
This statement was made amid
news that other local airlines were planning to increase the cost of domestic
flights, following a Government decision last December not to impose upper
limits on air fares.
Prior to this decision, one-way tickets for the Hanoi-HCM City route could not
be sold at more than 1.7 million VND, to prevent any single airline monopolising
the market.
Vietnam Airlines’ General Director Pham Ngoc Minh said that, due to the current
stability of global fuel prices and the Government’s recent petrol import tax
cuts from 40 to 25 percent, the airline wanted to pass these savings onto its
passengers. This decision is in line with Government policy, he added.
He also confirmed that the airline plans to increase the number of flights on
offer and ensure the availability of tickets during the next holiday, which
falls on April 30 and May 1.
Vietnam’s budget airline, Jetstar Pacific, has recently submitted a plan to
increase its fares to the Ministry of Finance, with one-way tickets for the
Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City route ranging from 100,000 VND to 3.7 million VND.
