Poverty reduction by developing tourism highlighted at annual tourism conference
An annual tourism conference highlighting the
development of human resources in accordance with poverty reduction was held in
Hanoi on September 23rd. Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Tran
Chien Thang stressed that the annual conference follows the success of the three
previous meetings in Hanoi (2005), in Danang (2006), and Ho Chi Minh City
(2008).
The conference is part of the project of developing Vietnam’s tourism human
resources funded by the European Union with a total budget of EURO12 million,
including EURO1,2 million of Vietnam’s correspondent capital.
This year’s conference focuses on analyzing the role of poverty reduction in
developing the country’s tourism human resources and its contribution to the
future’s strategy.
Second Secretary of the Cooperation Development Section of the Delegation of the
European Commission (EC) to Vietnam Johann Farnhammer, said that tourism’s
influence on poverty reduction can be observed, especially in remote areas, in
which there is great potential to develop tourism.
The conference will last until September 25th and is expected to target the
development of Vietnam’s human resources to alleviate poverty through tourism.
