Special series on Hanoi to air
Stories behind the special roof on the Hanoi Opera
House and the French names of ancient Hanoian streets will be told in “Ky Su
Thang Long”, a television series to be broadcast on Vietnam Television (VTV)
from October 10, 2009.
“Ky Su Thang Long” (Thang Long Chronicles) is a series aimed at celebrating the
1000th anniversary of Hanoi. VTV began shooting the first episode this July.
The series will include 100 15-minute episodes. To date, 52 episodes have been
completed, featuring the following topics: girls of the Old Quarter, the roof of
the Hanoi Opera House, the Long Bien bridge, the five ancient gates, Nhat Tan
apricot flowers, the To Lich river, Thang Long royal citadel and the old French
names of streets.
Many of the information about Hanoi will be new to TV audiences with VTV
inviting historians and scholars to evaluate and write scripts.
Each week VTV will air two episodes at 4pm on Thursday and 6pm of Saturday. The
first episode will be broadcast on October 10, the 999th anniversary of Thang
Long – Hanoi capital.
