Mac Dynasty’s citadel to get facelift
The northern mountainous province of Tuyen Quang
has approved a plan worth VND9.8 billion (roughly USD540,000) to preserve the
relic of a citadel built under Mac Dynasty (1592).
The year-long project starting from 2009 is funded by Ministry of Cultural,
Sport and Tourism as part of a national cultural programme.
Nguyen Viet Thanh, Director of Tuyen Quang provincial Department of Culture,
Sport and Tourism said the project will zone out the preservation site and
restore the western and southern gates and the wall.
Utmost care will be taken in choosing construction materials and upgrading work
to ensure the historical and architectural values of the relics.
The square citadel, which has three gates in the west, east and south with over
1,000m in length of wall, was built in 1592 under the Mac Dynasty during its
struggle with the Trinh Dynasty.
The Mac Dynasty which was founded by Mac Dang Dung underwent five generations
during a period of 66 years from 1527 to 1592.
