Statue of Uncle Ho with ethnic people in LaiChau province
On October 15th 2009, the northern mountainous Lai
Chau provincial Party Committee, People’s Council and People’s Committee held a
ceremony to unveil a statue of Uncle Ho with ethnic people in the province.
After two years of construction, the statue commemorates the 100th anniversary
of the founding of the province, and the 60th anniversary of the provincial
Party Committee.
The statue commemorates an event in September 1959 when Uncle Ho visited Thai
and Meo ethnic-inhabited area in Thuan Chau district, Son La province. Many
revolutionary cadres and representatives from ethnic minority groups in Lai Chau
province were honoured to meet Uncle Ho.
The statue was placed in Nhan Dan square in Lai Chau province. It includes seven
figures, represented are Uncle Ho, outstanding ethnic people such as Thai, Mong,
Ha Nhi, representatives from the armed forces, and children.
The statue cost of 41.5 billion VND.
