Two major golf tourneys to take place in the north
Two major golf tournaments will take place on
courses in the north of Vietnam this month and next for amateur and professional
players from Vietnam and from overseas to compete.
Vietnam Airlines will hold a friendship tournament at Tam Dao Golf Course in
Vinh Phuc province on Sunday for its staff, partners and local and expatriate
business people.
More than 100 golf enthusiasts are expected to compete for a number of prizes
including trophies, airtickets of Vietnam Airlines and Visa debit cards of
Techcombank.
However, the focus of attention is the Mercedes-Benz Masters Vietnam, which is
slated for King’s Island Golf Club west of Hanoi from November 11 to 14, with
prizes amounting to US$80,000, US$5,000 more than last year’s event.
Positioned as the prestigious season-ending Tour Championship, the Mercedes-Benz
Masters Vietnam will be organized for the top 60 players from Mercedes-Benz Tour
Order of Merit as a reward for the best players of the year.
The Mercedes-Benz Masters Vietnam was held at Van Tri last year and saw
Thailand’s Wisut Artjanawat claim his second title of the season. Greater things
are expected this year when the tournament is the Tour Championship and will
determine the Mercedes-Benz Tour Order of Merit title.
“We are delighted that the Mercedes-Benz Masters Vietnam has been selected as
this year’s Tour Championship. This is the third year of the tournament and with
Vietnam being one of the exciting new frontiers of golf in Southeast Asia,” said
Dr Udo F. Loersch, general director of Mercedes-Benz Vietnam.
A total of six tournaments have been played so far this year and two remain. The
penultimate event is the Mercedes-Benz Masters Indonesia at Emeralda Golf and
Country Club from October 14 to 17.
No halfway cut will be made in the 72-hole tournament ensuring all competitors
will be guaranteed a share of the prize money. The hole-in-one prize this year
is a new Mercedes-Benz GLK 4MATIC worth US$77,900.
The award ceremony will be held at King’s Island Golf Club on November 14. Also,
golfers and golf enthusiasts in Vietnam have a chance to experience the driving
pleasure with Mercedes-Benz cars right at the golf course.
On November 15, professional and amateur golfers in Vietnam will have
opportunities to play golf with Asia’s top golfers in a Pro-Am friendship match.
