Taoism pictures exhibition display in Hanoi
An exhibition introducing the Taoism worshipping
tradition upheld by ethnic people in the northern mountainous areas of Vietnam
opened in Hanoi on October 21.
On display at the show are 150 worshipping pictures, three printing frames, four
gowns, 30 wooden masks and four accreditation papers of Taoist sorcerers.
These items belong to a huge collection including 350 worshipping pictures of
Pham Duc Si, a carpenter and producer of wooden picture frames for painters of
the University of Fine Arts.
Si has spent more than 20 years studying culture of various ethnic minorities
including the Tay-Nung, Cao Lan-San chi, San Diu and Dao. He cherishes a wish of
printing a book of the collection to put it on display for greater audience.
Taoism pictures in the northern mountainous region of Vietnam refer to
worshipping drawings which are preserved by Taoist sorcerers and used in worship
activities, especially those aimed at asking for good crops.
The exhibition will open until October 25.
