A Puppet play about Ly Thai To King
A puppet play about King Ly Thai To is being made
by the Viet Nam Centre for Culture Research and Preservation to celebrate the
1,000th anniversary of Thang Long-Ha Noi.
The King, who chose to move the capital from Hoa Lu in the northern province of
Ninh Binh Province to a broader area lying in the flat alluvia delta named Dai
La, now Ha Noi, has been a familiar character in movies but this is the first
time he has been portrayed as a puppet.
The 30-minute play depicts King Ly Thai To’s life and his travelling from the
former capital to the new land.
According to some historic documents, it was Ly Thai To that decided to widen
the performance of puppetry throughout the country in the 11th century;
therefore, the scene of the King visiting his homeland and seeing this kind of
performance will be staged as well.
