Vietnam’s National History Museum to be a showplace
This will be the largest museum in Vietnam
exhibiting items about Vietnam’s history from ancient times to the present day.
It will become a modern cultural landmark, and Vietnam’s largest
socio-historical museum.
The Museum will have frequent access to new research and results confirmed by
historical and other related sciences. It will expand cooperative relations to
introduce historical and cultural heritages of domestic and foreign museums,
plus the private collections of individuals and organizations.
According to a decision signed by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung in 2006, the
National History Museum will serve scientific research, study, and dissemination
of knowledge about history and cultural heritage as well as other requests by
Vietnamese citizens and international friends, contributing to socio-economic
development. The Museum also helps to train and nurture skilled personnel in
museum studies.
The National History Museum project will be a complex of construction works,
based on a combination of the current Vietnam History Museum and the Vietnam
Revolution Museum in Hanoi. The Museum will be built on 28 ha at Huu Nghi Park
in Co Nhue and Xuan Dinh communes in Tu Liem District of Hanoi.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2007 organized a design contest
for the new museum and introduced 18 designs for public comments. The design by
Nikken Sekkei Ltd was chosen.
