Bac Giang celebrates UNESCO recognition
The Bac Giang provincial Department of
Culture, Sports and Tourism on November 23 held its first performance of
traditional singing to mark Vietnam’s Cultural Heritage Day.
The event celebrated ‘Quan Ho’ and ‘Ca Tru’ traditional singing being recognised
as an intangible cultural heritage by the United Nations Educational Scientific
and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in the lead up to the 1,000th anniversary of
Thang Long-Hanoi.
Apart from concerts and performances of traditional theatre, there was an
exhibition of well-known traditional handicrafts, including rattan knitting in
Phuc Long and Phuc Tang villages, Tang Tien commune, Viet Yen district, brocade
weaving and paper making in Khe Nghe village, Luc Son commune, Luc Nam district
and hand-made pottery in Tu Mai commune, Yen Dung district.
The Bac Giang provincial Museum also held an exhibition on ‘Quan Ho’ and ‘Ca Tru’
singing as well as the conservation work that has been underway.
A special event to introduce cuisine from the northern provinces also took
place.
