NSFC taking off
A Mi-172 helicopter of the Northern Service Flight
Company (NSFC) under the Vietnam Service Flight Corporation (VSFC) made its
final tourist service flight for the year on the afternoon of December 25th,
marking a successful business year of the company.
The passengers of the flight were a couple, named Demetries Tsouvelekakis, an
American banker of Greek origin and his wife, Christina Stratou. They were on
their honeymoon.
After the air tour to the Vietnamese natural wonder, Ha Long Bay, they felt
satisfied. “We are both very happy. The tour is great. The flight was
comfortable and the crew seemed to be very professional,” they said while on the
runway heading for the station.
The air tour to Ha Long Bay has been exploited for several years by NSFC piquing
the interests of both domestic and foreign tourists. Some have suggested that Ha
Long Bay “is a unique landmark, but if you explore it from the air, you can see
the whole picture of the natural wonder with thousands of small islands of
various shapes in the gulf”.
“This is the first time we have been to Vietnam, but friends back home, as well
as the travel agent recommended us to enjoy our honeymoon in foreign places,
including Ha Long Bay. Luckily, we have made the right decision,” said the Greek
couple.
The young couple also had a nice surprise as they were received and presented
with gifts and flowers by the NSFC top officials when they get off the
helicopter. Since the flight was the final tourist service of the company, it
held a small party to mark the event. Champagne was opened to toast the past
year and to wish for a good year to come.
NSFC is a part of the VSFC under the Defense Ministry. Apart from military
tasks, it also provides flights for civilian purposes like tourism, along with
oil and gas exploration and production at sea. In spite of difficulties and the
negative impact of the global economic recession, the company has finished the
year of 2009 by reaching 106 per cent of its annual profit projection.
Colonel Nguyen Van Vinh, Director of the NSFC, an experienced helicopter pilot
who used to fly for a foreign oil company in Norway, said that the company met
many difficulties in 2008-09 as the number of contracts from traditional clients
went down and petrol prices took off in the domestic and international market.
“Against this backdrop, we had to expand the market, diversify our products and
services and especially focus on the improvement of our service quality,” he
said.
To take advantage of the global economic recovery, the NSFC is now investing in
training young pilots and aviation engineers, as well as obtaining new
helicopters and equipment, said Colonel Le Anh Khiem, Deputy Director for
Politics. “We have made a long-term plan on training staff, acquisition (of
equipment), flight safety procedures and market expansion as they are key
factors ensuring the company’s sustainable development,” the Deputy Director
stressed.
A new year of new opportunities and challenges is coming, but there is little
doubt that the NSFC will reap more benefits in the upcoming year with such
specific business and staff development strategies.
