First cashew festival to be held in March
The Golden Cashew Festival, the first of its kind in Vietnam, will be held in
Binh Phuoc from March 20-23 at a total cost of 15 billion dong (US$830,000).
Vietnam is looking to export 170,000-180,000 tonnes in 2010.
During the event, there will be concerts, a parade of bicycles decorated in
flowers, competitions to create a slogan and a logo for the festival, a ceremony
to award scientists and manufacturers, plus several conferences.
A ceremony to hand over cashew seeds from the Vietnamese government to the
governments of Cambodia and Laos will also be organised.
Vietnam is one of the top countries in the world for cashew output, with over
15,000 tonnes per year. In 2008, Vietnam overtook India to become the biggest
supplier of cashew to the US. The country is looking to export 170,000-180,000
tonnes in 2010.
