Hue commemorates King Quang Trung
A ceremony took place at the Ban Mountain square in the central city of Hue on
January 9 to inaugurate the King Quang Trung statue and commemorate his
coronation in Hue capital.
The ceremony attracted thousands of people and was 75 minutes long and involved
1,400 people. The show included a coronation, Cham dances, dances of the Central
Highlands, sword and shield dances and a Binh Dinh martial arts performance.
The statue of King Quang Trung is 21m high, made by 18 blocks of stone of 10-60
tonnes. Behind the statue is a 60m long description of the start of Tay Son army
until King Quang Trung issued an order to go to the north to fight Qing invaders
and liberate Thang Long capital in 1789.
This ceremony is the first festival to kick of Thua Thien – Hue province’s
