400-year-old temple turtle specimen restored by experts
The specimen of a 400-year-old turtle in the Ngoc Son Temple, Hanoi, was mended
on January 13 by experts from the Hanoi University of Natural Sciences.
This specimen has been kept at the Ngoc Son Temple since 1968 following its
death. After over four decades, the specimen was split and parts of the shell,
nose and lips, needed to be repaired.
Vu Ngoc Thanh from the Hanoi University of Natural Sciences said the materials
used for the repair are gypsum, latex and glue.
He said that in general, the specimen is in good shapes but mould had developed
inside the glass box.
“The turtle’s nose, lips and shell have been repaired but the claw is not
repaired yet because we don’t have the suitable material. This repair is the
biggest one of the last decade,” said an official of the Ngoc Son temple
management board.
