Hanoi gets a new theatre
The Vietnam Song & Dance Theatre’s “Dong Vong Kinh Ky” show on January 15 marked
the come of a new theatre in the capital city, named “Vietnamese Cultural
Centre”.
The new theatre is located on the bank of the Hoan Kiem Lake, next to the King
Le Thai To statue.
The Vietnamese Cultural Centre is a complex with a small theatre of 300 seats,
here it will host selected shows including chamber music, pop music and
performances by international artists.
There is also an outdoor stage for traditional and folk music like quan ho (love
duets), hat xam (songs of strolling blind musicians), cheo (traditional
operetta), tuong (Vietnamese classical opera) and ca tru (ceremonial singing)
and an exhibition room.
In the last 55 years, this is the third theatre built in Hanoi’s inner area,
after the Tuoi Tre Theatre at 11 Ngo Thi Nham in 1980 and the Vietnam-Russia
Cultural Friendship Palace on Tran Hung Dao Stret in 1985.
