Lang Co Bay with Great Potential
Lang Co was listed as one of the “World’s Most Beautiful Bays” on May 16, 2009
by Worldbays Club, located 70km south of Hue City and 30km north of Danang City.
Seen from Hai Van Pass, Lang Co Bay is as beautiful as a charming painting with
its blue and clear water, azure sky, ranges of mountains with tropical forests
stretching to the seashore. Also, the Bay boasts 42.5km of gently slopped
coastlines with 13km of white and silky sandy beach.
Lang Co Sea is the habitat of 151 species of fish, 31 species of seabed
creatures and many rare and precious species, such as lobster, mackerel, cuttle-fish,
sea horses, butterfish, oysters, etc. Near the beach is Chan May Cape and Lang
Co fishing village. Amidst the forests and the sea is the brackish water lagoon
of Lap An, covering 1,500ha, which is abundant with crabs, sweet snails,
snappers, oysters, mullets, mytilus smaragdinus, Rachycentron canadum, grouper,
Siganus Guttatus, etc.
With such great tourism potential, Lang Co has developed many forms and services
of tourism, such as convalescence centres, diving to behold ranges of corrals,
ecotourism in the lagoon, mountain climbing, golf, tropical forest exploration,
fishing, etc. Here tourists can swim in clear and blue sea water, enjoy various
delicious seafood, visit Lang Co fishing village to behold the bustling scenery
at the boat wharf, drink sweet coconut milk or go fishing on Lap An Lagoon at
sunset.
Within 70km from Lang Co, there are world cultural heritage sites which have
been recognised by UNESCO, including the complex of Hue relics, Hoi An Ancient
Town and My Son Sanctuary.
Since Hai Van Tunnel that connects Hue and Da Nang was opened and the
construction of Chan May deep-water port with 130m of wharfs was completed, Lang
Co rises as a young city with its economic strength. It has Chan May deep-water
port, Chan May-Lang Co Economic Zone and Chan May Urban Area. Thua Thien – Hue
Province has invested 1,182 billion VND in 22 infrastructure projects,
particularly in works for tourism and coastal environment protection. Chan May –
Lang Co Economic Zone has 33 domestic and foreign investment projects with a
total capital of 1.9 billion USD, including many resort and tourism projects.
Since 2000, Huong Giang Tourism Joint-Stock Company in Thua Thien – Hue
Province, made a joint-venture to build the 4-star Lang Co Beach Resort covering
10ha which consists of villas with 200 rooms facing to the sea. The resort was
designed in Hue’s architectural style with a harmonious architectural
combination of imperial palaces, temples and pagodas, wooden houses and garden
houses. All bedrooms, restaurants, swimming pools and tennis courts were built
amidst a green space with small alleys edged with clusters of violet myrtle
trees. The resort was put into operation in March 2001 with various tourism
services of swimming, massage, tennis, badminton, beach volleyball and football.
It organises tours to catch seafood, go fishing in Lap An and An Cu Lagoons,
visit Hai Van Pass, Hai Van Tunnel, Bach Ma National Park, go to the forest to
swim in Voi Spring, etc… Annually, about 25,000 tourists visit Lang Co Beach
Resort.
Currently a project on building Laguna-Hue Ecological Tourism Area that is
funded by Banyan Tree Group ( Singapore ) with a total capital of 875 million
USD in an area of 280ha near Lang Co Bay has started construction.
With its primitive beauty, Lang Co, one of the world’s most beautiful bays has
become the paradise of resorts in Vietnam, becoming the pride of the locals in
Thua Thien-Hue Province in particular, and Vietnam in general.
