Da Nang City to host international fireworks competition
The third Da Nang international fireworks competition would take place by the
bank of the Han River here on March 27 and 28, municipal People’s Committee
announced yesterday, January 26.
The central city would host competitors from the US, Portugal, Japan and France.
The festival, named The Legend of Han River, was selected by Prime Minister
Nguyen Tan Dung to be one of seven major events nationwide this year, which
would be held to prepare for the 1,000th anniversary of the Thang Long – Ha Noi
capital. It would also celebrate Da Nang’s 35th year of its liberation day.
The occasion would also see flower garland and coloured lantern performances,
Vietnamese trade village and drawing exhibitions, and kite flying and marine
sport contests.
"The festival will be an important highlight for the city’s tourism," said
People’s Committee vice chairman Vo Duy Khuong.
Organisers revealed at a press conference introducing the event yesterday that
the festival had attracted more than VND11 billion (US$595,000) from sponsors.
Children’s paintings chosen for calendar
Outstanding paintings on climate change by Vietnamese school children were
last year selected for print in a desk calendar with the aim of raising public
awareness on environmental and climate change issues.
The 15 winning paintings and their authors were honoured earlier this month in
Rach Gia City, Kien Giang Province, watched by campaign officials.
The initiative is part of a joint effort between the German Technical
Co-operation’s project focusing on integrated coastal zone management in the
southern provinces of Bac Lieu, Kien Giang and Soc Trang, and local departments
of education and training.
The competition received 7,000 entries and will be held again at the end of this
year.
