Vietnamese kite artisans practice for int’l kite festival

      To prepare for the upcoming International Vung Tau Kite Festival 2009, Vietnamese kite artisans are busy practicing kite flying on the beach of Ho Tram tourist site, Xuyen Moc district, Ba Ria-Vung Tau province.
They practice flying various types of kites. However, the chairman of the Art Kite Club from the HCM City Cultural Centre, Le Van Quy, said Vietnamese artisans haven’t shown off all their talents yet.
Quy revealed a unique performance of Vietnamese kite artisans through a short video clip, in which a member of the HCM City Art Kite Club controls a kite using an extremely difficult technique called 4D (four-dimension) flying. Quy said that only one member of his club can perform this technique. This club’s members can also arrange kites in different shapes.
Each country has its own unique kite. For Vietnam, the flute kite is the most special. Nguyen Phu Thai, a kite artisan in Ba Ria-Vung Tau, said that with some special kites, a flute sound can be heard 3-4km away.
