35 meter rice cake breaks national record
This huge banh tet (cylindric glutinous rice cake)
and 999 small banh tet will be carried in an afternoon procession along on the
roads of Nha Trang on the third day of the first lunar month (February 16).
1000 banh tet will be boiled on February 15. They will join the procession with
unicorn and dragon dance troupes plus a music show on February 16.
These banh tet will be cut into small pieces for residents, tourists and to sell
for charity.
Banh Tet Festival became an annual event in Nha Trang as of 2004 when Nha Trang
Bay was recognized as the 29th most beautiful bay in the world.
The giant banh tet grows one meter longer each year. This year it will reach 35
meters. The cake has a diameter of 0.2m and its stuffing consists of peanuts,
banana, green bean, pork, and red bean.
