Sports events to celebrate Hanoi’s 1,000th anniversary

The General Department of Sports and Physical Training will hold at least six major sports events this year in the lead-up to the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi as Vietnam’s capital.
The Vietnam National Sports Festival is still the biggest competition event, including 49 events in 19 cities and provinces nationwide. The final round of the festival will be held in Da Nang City.
The International Trans-Viet Cycling Race will start in Ho Chi Minh City on September 25 and finish in Hanoi on the capital’s Liberation Day (October 10).
A badminton tournament, sponsored by the International Badminton Federation in coordination with the Asian Badminton Association, will be held in April, and a football tournament themed “1,000 years of Thang Long” will also take place in Hanoi.
There will be martial arts events in August and October, including an international festival for Vietnamese traditional martial arts in Binh Dinh and a Vietnam traditional martial arts performance competition in Hanoi.
