Trams to appear soon on Old Quarter streets
Battery-operated tramcars would be introduced to
Ha Noi’s Old Quarter and Hoan Kiem Lake early next month by Dong Xuan Joint
Stock Company, director Do Xuan Thuy announced this week.
The first 12 tramcars would have 8-12 seats each and run every 20 minutes at
speeds of up to 45kph, Thuy said.
They would follow a 6km long circuit of ancient commercial streets and include
the historic places such as Dong Xuan Market, Kim Ngan Communal House, temple of
King Le and the O Quan Chuong Gate.
A tour guide on each tramcar would provide details of the history of the various
relics at 13 stops, Thuy said.
“The ticket price is VND15,000 (US$0.8) per person or VND240,000 ($12.6) per
tramcar per trip,” he said, adding that the tramcars would be imported to Ha Noi
within the next five days.
Ha Noi Department of Transport vice director Nguyen Hoang Linh said the imported
tramcars would be checked carefully before being registered.
The tour will start from Dinh Tien Hoang Street and along Hang Duong, Hang Chieu,
Hang Vai, Hang Buom, Ma May, Hang Bac, Hang Bo, Bat Dan and Hang Quat streets to
end at Le Thai To Street.
