Post-holiday travel triggers ticket scarcity in Vietnam

Local airlines and trains operators say it’s hard for passengers to buy tickets now as travel demand surges at the end of the Tet festival.
Ta Huu Thanh, deputy general director of Jetstar Pacific, said almost all southbound flights during this weekend have been fully booked and its fleet of six aircraft is operating at full capacity.
Dang Anh Tuan, a senior official of national carrier Vietnam Airlines, said there would be an “intense situation” at Noi Bai Airport in Hanoi until Monday as many people need to fly to the south for work after Tet holidays.
Only a few tickets were left on weekend flights departing from Hanoi, Tuan said.
Train tickets have also become scarce, railway officials said.
Phung Thi Ly Ha, deputy manager of the Hanoi Railway Station, said most tickets to Ho Chi Minh City from now to next Thursday have been bought already. Only a few tickets were available on early morning or late evening trains, she said.
Around 13,000-14,000 passengers would pass through the station every day in the next few days, Ha estimated.
