Hanoians make ceremonial offerings
Thousands of people on the evening of February 27
flocked to major pagodas in Hanoi to make ceremonial offerings to wish for peace
and good luck on the occasion of Tet Nguyen Tieu (the fifteenth day of the first
lunar month festival).
At Phuc Khanh pagoda, crowds of people joined in the ceremony to relieve
themselves of a run of bad luck, jamming a stretch of road from the beginning of
the flyover to the three-way crossroad at Thai Thinh-Nguyen Trai.
A similar situation occurred in Ha and Tran Quoc pagodas, and in Quan Thanh
temple.
At 6a.m on February 28, the fifteenth day of the first lunar month, the West
Lake Temple’s parking area was overcrowded. In the inner temple, people elbowed
each other to pray and make obeisances and some people even carried trays of
objects for offerings on their heads.
The security in pagodas this year was considered better than in previous years.
In the area where Quan Su pagoda is located, security forces were reinforced to
ensure traffic control and avoid jams caused by people coming to make ceremonial
offerings.
