Tourists awakened by fire in Ha Long Bay
A tourist boat caught on fire and sank in Ha Long
Bay during the early morning hours of February 28.
The fire broke out around midnight while it was anchored in the bay. Due to the
late hour and the quick spread of the fire, nearby boats did not come to their
assistance.
By 12.30am, the anchor line broke and the ship floated freely while it burned.
The ship reportedly sank at 1am, just an hour after the fire began.
Senior sailors speculated that the fire started in the exhaust pipe or in the
boat’s kitchen.
At the time of the fire, the tourist ship held ten foreign tourists, who were
quickly evacuated and suffered no injuries.
The sunken ship is owned by the Minh Quang tourism firm.
