Flamboyant trees make Dalat go violet
While the pink color of cherry blossoms has faded,
the roads of Da Lat resort city, Lam Dong province have now been dyed violet by
the bright blooming flowers of the so-called flamboyant trees.
The oldest flamboyant trees in the city of flowers were built in the 1970.
Dalat’s elder citizen report that engineer Luong Van Sau, a member of the French
Rose Society, was the one who imported the trees into Dalat.
Engineer Sau graduated from the Agriculture University in France in 1962 and
returned home with some extremely rare varieties of trees, including four
American-sourced violet flamboyant trees.
According to the elderly, these flamboyant trees were grown in Dalat, including
one on the bank of the Xuan Huong Lake, near the Da Lat floating pavilion, one
on Nguyen Thi Minh Khai road and two others in the city’s park. However, one
tree died.
Since then, Dalat’s gardeners have created hundreds of the violet flamboyant
trees. The tree has become a symbol of the resort city.
