Hanoi old quarter information centre opens
On March 25th, the Hanoi Department of Culture,
Sports and Tourism and the Management Board for Hanoi ancient quarter cut ribbon
to open the Hanoi old quarter information centre at Quan De Temple in Hang Buom
Street.
Its establishment aims to organize effective activities to glorify tangible
heritages such as architectural works and the history of the city, and
intangible culture including traditional handicrafts, festivals, customs, daily
life and Hanoi’s special dishes.
The centre will be also a place to provide advice to people in Hanoi ancient
quarter in preserving and promoting heritages of Hanoi in particular and in the
country in general.
According to Mai Tien Dung, vice director of the Hanoi Department of Culture,
Sports and Tourism, the establishment will help young people in Hanoi understand
more about fine values of the nation and traditional products; provide tourists
and tour guides information about origin and specific features of traditional
handicrafts of Thang Long – Hanoi as well as introduce cultural projects.
Its main activities consist of an exhibition of household utensils used by
Hanoians, and the traditional dishes they prepare along with demonstrations to
revive old industries such as silk weaving, lacquer painting and using ancient
decorative arts to renovate old houses as well as a plentitude of other
activities.
