Vietnam hosts the World Tourism Organisation’s 22nd session
The Vietnam Tourism Administration under the
Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is to host the 22nd session of the
Commission for East Asia and the Pacific and Commission for South Asia under the
United Nation’s World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) and a meeting under the theme
“Tourism-Important Dynamic for Socio-Economic Development”.
300 delegates including over 100 from 26 UNWTO’s country members will attend
these events, scheduled to take place from May 10th to 12th in Hanoi.
Participants will discuss policies and measures to develop regional tourism.
This is an opportunity for Vietnam to increase its image worldwide and to
popularise the country’s culture and tourism potential focusing on promising
markets, such as Japan, the Republic of Korea, China, Australia and ASEAN.
Vu The Binh, the head of the Travelling Department under the Vietnam Tourism
Administration revealed that the first quarter of this year saw an increase of
36% in the number of international travelers to Vietnam but the number of
visitors to Hanoi decreased by 7.2%.
Thus, this week, the Vietnam Tourism Administration and the Hanoi Department of
Culture, Sports and Tourism is to work out plans to attract more visitors.
Additionally, under the national tourism promotion plan designed for 2010, the
Administration will introduce the event of 1,000th year-old Thang Long at 45
subway stations of the Japanese capital of Tokyo; release videos “Let’s visit
Hanoi-the 1,000 year-old city” as well as conduct several surveys and sketch out
some eco-tours to trade villages throughout Hanoi.
