VND 986 billion to develop tourism in Con Co Island
A master plan to develop Con Co Island into a
tourist site was introduced at the 20th session of the Quang Tri People’s
Council on April 19th.
Con Co Island is 17 nautical miles away from Cua Viet and 15 nautical miles from
Cua Tung beaches, which draw an increasing number of domestic and international
visitors. With the favorable location, Con Co is seen to have high potential for
tourism.
Being isolated from the shore, the island’s forests are almost untouched with a
rare ecosystem, which was formed by a volcano a long time ago, and there are
coral reefs in good condition lying under the sea around the island.
In fact, Con Co has drawn a large number of tourists over the past few years.
Some people arrive in the island to visit the old “bomb bag” from the past war,
while others are fascinated by the beauty and myths of the island.
According to the master plan drawn up by the Provincial People’s Committee, VND
986 billion is needed to invest in the island between now and 2020.
Local officials also said that the project aims to develop tourism on the island
on one hand and improve infrastructure and living conditions for the islanders
on the other hand.
