Vietnam Airlines to operate 14 extra flights
Vietnam Airlines plans to add 14 additional
flights in the next four days to meet high travel demand as there are signs
Europe will reopen its skies soon, officials said at a press briefing in Hanoi
Tuesday.
Phan Xuan Duc, the national flag carrier’s executive vice president for
operations, said the airlines had canceled a total of 21 flights as of Tuesday
and about 6,400 Vietnam Airlines passengers were stranded in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh
City and other major European airports.
VNA chairman and CEO, Pham Ngoc Minh, said they were seeking assistance from
some of the European embassies in Vietnam, Germany and France in particular, to
assist with getting approval from the European authorities.
Airline officials said it is still focused on its “contingency plan” and “would
sit down” at a later time to estimate economic damage suffered by the
significant disruption of flight schedules.
