First fruit festival closes in Tien Giang
The first Vietnamese Fruit Festival closed in the
Mekong delta province of Tien Giang on April 24. At the closing ceremony, the
organising board awarded the Golden Cups for the Cause of Developing the quality
of Vietnamese fruits and food safety” for 18 businesses, 30 scientists and 40
institutes, schools and branches in the field as well as honoured 61 creative
farmers.
The festival also recogised four Vietnamese records the longest graffiti
painting of a dragon, the four supermatural creatures in tribute to the 1000th
anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi, the largest map of Vietnam and the biggest
dragon gate, all made of fruit.
Tran The Ngoc, Chairman of the Tien Giang provincial People’s Committee and also
Head of the Festival’s organising board said that the success of the first-ever
festival showed prospect for the country’s fruits. He expressed his hope that
more and more Vietnamese fruits will be seen on domestic and foreign markets,
thus contributing to raising incomes for farmers and developing the country’s
fruit sector.
The six-day festival attracted 800,000 visitors and organised four workshops
relating to fruit development and tourism.
