Nha Trang hotels warned not to hike rates
The Khanh Hoa Province people’s committee has
warned hotels they will lose their licenses if they increase room rates
unreasonably to take advantage of the travel rush from April 30.
The long holiday starts on Reunification Day, April 30, and goes on through
Monday to compensate for May Day which falls on a Saturday, and Vietnamese are
expected to travel in huge numbers.
All tourist accommodations have been ordered to report their room rates to
officials and inform guests their rates before April 28.
Those caught raising the rates unreasonably or by 50 percent above the rates
they register will be subjected to penalties ranging from fines to a cancelation
of their license.
The central province has more than 400 hotels, resorts, and guest houses, almost
all of them in Nha Trang, the coastal city which is home to one of the world’s
most beautiful bays.
It has 20 hotels rated three-star and above with a combined 2,450 rooms.
The city attracted has around 500,000 visitors this year, with the tourism
industry earning VND500 billion (US$26.47 million).
