Festival promotes lagoon tourism in Hue
The tourism and fisheries potential of Southeast
Asia's largest lagoon, Tam Giang, was highlighted last weekend at a festival
organised by Quang Dien District in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue. The
two-day festival was named Song Nuoc Tam Giang (Water and Waves of Tam Giang).
Locals and visitors participating in the festival had the opportunity to take
tours and enjoy the natural beauty of the lagoon as well as observe daily life
in the region. They could also take part in folk games, or try their hand at
several traditional handicraft vocations of communities living nearby the
lagoon.
Nguyen Giai, deputy chairman of the district people's committee and head of the
festival's organizing board, said the festival sought to "awaken the potentials
of lagoon tourism and attract investment to develop hotels and resorts around
the lagoon."
The 52sq.km wide Tam Giang (three rivers) lagoon is the confluence of three
major rivers – Huong (Perfume), Bo and O Lau. It is rich in terms of breakage
water biodiversity and of great significance in preventing salination of
agricultural land.
